My Passport For Mac No Reconoce

I recently had to purchase a new MacBook Pro, and when I tried to get files off of my Passport for Mac external hard drive. I get an error stating 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.' And when I try to initalize, and verify disk, I get this message 'Partition map check failed because no slices were found.' I have already updated firmware for the external hard drive. One site I found stated that it could be that the USB port is not strong enough, and I would need a 2.0 Booster cable. Does anyone know if this would work? It wont do the verify and repair.

I get the error about the partition and no slices being found. I get same error for repair as well. Doesn't let me get any further. I'm really starting to worry that I won't recover all my photos from 10 years. Internet radio for mac.

I had just moved all my photos from Iphoto to the HD, because my old laptop didn't have enough space.and then it died.and now the HD dies. There's got to be something I can do. Can I have the data removed from HD by some other method to another HD? I believe that's also said in the User Manual that came with your external.

Look at page 6 under Optional Accessories. If that's the case, you're fortunate you didn't get a Retina MBP because there's only one USB port on each side and the optional cable couldn't reach both. Since it shows up in Disk Utility, does it list both a Media line and a volume line below it? With the Media line selected, at the bottom of the window do you see line saying 'Partition Map Scheme'? Kmichiko wrote: I see a media line and the one below is an 'unmounted Partition', which is grayed out.

It also still says on the media line that SMART is not supported, but it passed on the Western Digital Utility. Any other ideas from here? The fact that a media scan could be accomplished when connected to your MBP suggests the external is getting enough power to spin the drive. SMART isn't supported via Disk Utility with a USB connection though WD has apparently found a way to read it with its own software none-the-less. When you click on the unmounted partition line, does anything appear at the bottom of the window next to Partition Map Scheme? And when that line is clicked, does the 'Mount' button at the top of the window become active?

If it does, click it to mount the partition. Apple Footer • This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only.
