Cad Cam Software For Mac Os X

Most major CAD software packages aren’t compatible with Mac OS, meaning you have to run Windows on your Mac—taking up a lot of storage—and the ones that are compatible, more often than not, come with limited capabilities. ICADMac is user friendly 2D/3D CAD software for MAC OS X, which reads and writes DWG format drawing files up to AutoCAD v. 2018.It is easy to use thanks to the high level of compatibility with AutoCAD, and it is easy to get as you pay far less money to obtain economic licensing solutions.

It would be a dream come true if CAD and CAM was made for macs. (I know Rhino is making a mac version of their CAD software.)Siemens have a mac version of NX, but I think that is the only native mac cam out there right now. Ashlar Vellum are heavily mac oriented and have some of the best cad/design/solid modelling software around.

I use cobalt instead of solidworks mainly because I can work on the same files on my workstation at work and on my mac at home, but also because it's very intuitive and pleasant to work with. I tried a beta of the mac rhino but I never really liked rhino in the first place to be honest. Most cad software for mac is fairly architecturally biased I've found.

Gregor BTW, I've always been intrigued as to what the original mac version of gibbs was like. Anyone used it? I was using macs back then, but I was playing games and doing homework, never even heard of cam or cnc! I started using Gibbs on a Mac way back in the late 80's to early 90's. Then they shipped us a DOS version, Then Windows 3.0 Floppy Install. 3.1 Then Windows for Workgroups 3.11. Gibbs has always kinda looked the same though. Usb icons for mac.

It always was kind of a GUI interface. Over and above all the other programs I have worked with over the years. It is a slick program. I still have the Dongle where I was a Beta Tester on Version 1.0? I thought I still had the key here in my Desk Drawer but would have to dig further for it.

I actually still have a Gibbs Jacket that was handed to me by Bill Gibbs back in the early 90's and they have my 15 minutes of fame article on thier web site when I worked at an AeroSpace Company in Florida. But in the last few years I have been happy with FeatureCAM over the others, Mainly due to the Post Editing Strength of that program. Just my Two Cents, Mohawk. Siemens have a mac version of NX, but I think that is the only native mac cam out there right now.Vectorworks is Mac.But that's CAD only, as is BRL-CAD. There are others. What I would really like to see are POSIX-compliant CAD/CAM packages. They could be ported to OS X and Linux with very few problems.

It would be nice to move away from the Windows bloatware. And it might dissuade people from assuming that since they see a Windows screen, it should be used for the internet/chat software/unstable accounting software/crap inventory software/solitaire/etc. I hate dealing with critical computers that should have a single dedicated purpose, or at least an account dedicated to that purpose.
